Cancer-causing asbestos danger continues in powder
Asbestos Dismantling Experts Association (ASUD) President Mehmet Şeyhmus Ensari stated that they collected 21 samples from talc powders sold in the market, and cancer-causing asbestos was found in 5 samples in the analysis.
Association President Ensari stated in his written statement that asbestos, also known as white soil, is highly resistant to heat, abrasion and chemicals, flexible in terms of its structural features, and fibrous.
Ensari pointed out that today all forms of asbestos are defined as "certain carcinogens" by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the World Health Organization and the International Labor Organization.
Stating that "talc", a natural mineral type, is used in various consumer and industrial products including baby powder, cosmetics, pharmaceutical industry, ceramics, plastics, Ensari said that talc, which is found naturally close to asbestos minerals, is used during mining operations. emphasized that it can be easily contaminated with minerals.
Stating that pure talc is considered safe on its own, but asbestos contaminated talc is a public health problem, Ensari made the following evaluations:
"Disorders such as ovarian cancer and infertility can occur especially in women who use talc powders contaminated with asbestos. Also, in terms of occupational health and safety, workers working in the manufacture of these products are exposed to asbestos and asbestos causes various diseases in the lungs through breathing. compensation cases have been concluded, there are still ongoing cases. "
Mehmet Şeyhmus Ensari stated that they conducted the asbestos research in talcum powder two years ago as ASUD and the Asbestos and Hazardous Wastes Association and shared it with the public, but that there is still no inspection by the authorized bodies. Explaining that they are continuing the analysis as an association, Ensari said:
"We collected 21 samples from talcum powders sold in the market. Asbestos was found in 5 samples in the analysis. Impartiality, meticulousness and confidentiality, these analyzes show that one out of every four baby powders contains asbestos, which is a cancer-causing feature. To ensure the use of talc mineral and to create and popularize the asbestos-free quality certificate in all mineral-based products.
