Stating that there are many types of hymen, Prof. Dr. Deniz Ulaş Hız said that the most common of these varieties is the type called himen.
Annular type hymen also has a hole in the middle of the hymen. Thanks to this hole, the opening, menstrual blood can be thrown out. This opening can be very small or very wide. This opening is sometimes so wide that there is no bleeding during the first sexual intercourse. This is called a flexible hymen.
Occasionally the hymen may be septated, have many sieve-shaped holes (cribriform) or completely closed (imperforate hymen). So there may not be any holes in the middle of the chimney. In imperforate hymen, a young girl can never have a period because there is no hole where the menstrual blood can be thrown out. The blood that needs to be expelled every month accumulates in the uterus and vagina. When a doctor is consulted with severe groin pain, ultrasound shows blood accumulation in the uterus and vagina (hematometra, hematocolpos). The imperforehym must be opened surgically.
