Germany blames Trump for Congressional raid
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel blamed US President Donald Trump for the incidents in the US Congress building raid.
Germany reacted strongly to last night's attack on the Congress building in the USA. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the incident was the incumbent President Donald Trump, and that the crowd provoked by Trump attacked democracy. Emphasizing that peaceful power change is one of the cornerstones of democracies, Steinmeier said, “These types of uprisings are the result of despising democracy. The attack on the Congress building is a turning point for the United States. Democracy is stronger than hate. I believe that the elected president of the USA, Joe Biden's administration, will shine the torch of democracy again. Democracy is more important than any of our differences.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel also said that the US President Donald Trump, who did not admit defeat, was responsible for the incidents in the Congress Building raid in Washington. Stating that he was disturbed by the images regarding the events, Merkel said, “We all saw the disturbing images of the attack on the Congress building. These images both irritated and upset me. Unfortunately, Trump could not admit defeat and it caused violence to happen.
