Mandatory winter tire application begins
Winter tire obligation will start on December 1st, and those who do not do what is required will be fined 776 lira.
According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure requires the use of winter tires on vehicles used for transporting passengers and goods in accordance with the Road Traffic Law for a certain period of the year according to the weather and climatic conditions of the provinces. The said authority can also be delegated to the governorships by the Ministry.
The inspection of the vehicles is carried out by the personnel authorized by the Ministry, as well as by the General Directorate of Security, the Gendarmerie General Command, the border gates of the Ministry of Commerce and the inspection units of the municipalities.
The obligation to wear winter tires will start on December 1 and will continue until April 1, 2021. Drivers of vehicles that do not obey the rule will be fined 776 TL.
The penalty in question will be updated as of January 1, 2021, within the framework of the revaluation rate to be announced by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.
Winter tire is not "special" but mandatory on "commercial" vehicles
The application is not mandatory for private vehicles other than those carrying freight and passenger transportation, but winter tires must be used in all vehicles in winter conditions for the safety of life and property.
With this application, it is tried to prevent vehicles that do not take precautions according to winter conditions and do not have winter tires from blocking the road and suffering people.
Winter tires provide better handling and higher safety than summer tires at temperatures below 7 degrees, on wet, snowy and muddy grounds.
"Tires must be suitable for the season"
Aydın Erkoç, President of the Federation of Motor Vehicle Dealers (MASFED), told Anadolu Agency (AA) that changing tires is of great importance in order to ensure safe navigation and prevent traffic accidents.
Stating that the tire is at the top of the factors that cause an accident in a vehicle, Erkoç stated that the tires used must be suitable for the season.
Erkoç said, "When the air temperature drops to 7 degrees and below, it is time to put on winter tires. The reason for the traffic accidents in winter is mostly the use of tires that are not suitable for the season. it leads to skidding and loss of control. " said.
"Tire changes must be made before December 1"
Emphasizing that the winter tire application is of vital importance beyond necessity, Erkoç said, "Drivers should follow this rule for their own safety as well as the safety of other drivers and passengers, and they should change tires as soon as possible." he spoke.
Alerting the drivers to change their tires before 1 December, Erkoç was a major driver of conscious tire purchase as well as winter tire fitting.
