Teachers make birds nest with recycled materials In Karaman, some teachers made nests and feeders from recycled materials to keep birds from starving and cold in winter.
Teachers working at the Karaman Special Education Application and Business Application Center affiliated to the Provincial Directorate of National Education worked under the auspices of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife Emine Erdoğan to support the "Zero Waste Project" prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
In this context, teachers have implemented the "Nest for Birds Project" in order to create the awareness that "every waste is not garbage" and to obtain new products.
Under the guidance of the School Principal Barbaros Orman, the teachers brought unused recycled materials to the center's workshop.
The teachers who made bird nests out of plastic bottles, mangers, wood, cardboard and paper materials hung them on the trees in the garden of the school.
Teachers who have built 20 birdhouses so far are planning to build similar nests to be hung on trees in other schools' gardens if requested.
Orman told Anadolu Agency (AA) that teachers come to the school once a week due to the distance of education during the new type of coronavirus epidemic.
Stating that the teachers decided to come together in a joint project to spend this period more efficiently, Orman said:
"Our teachers made nests and feeders for birds, thinking about how we can utilize the recycled materials. They organized activities for animals that were hungry and thirsty in these cold days of the winter months, and hung the feeders and nests they obtained from the recycling on the trees of our school. I congratulate you on the occasion. "
"We wanted to be an example"
One of the teachers, Bayram Gökdemir, also said that birds are having such a project because they have difficulty finding feed in winter.
Gökdemir, "In this project, we turned the plastic bottles upside down so that the rainwater filled up, the birds benefit from the rain water and eat their feed. We have supported the Zero Waste Project with this project. We hope it will be very useful for nature and for our animals. We wanted to set an example. " used expressions.
Teacher Ayşenur Çetinkol expressed her hope that her projects will be beneficial to nature and animals.
