Providing information about the symptoms of diabetes, Ilgın said the following:
"The symptoms seen in diabetes are divided into two as classical symptoms and less common symptoms. The classic symptoms of diabetes are drinking too much water, frequent urination, eating too much food or anorexia, weakness, fatigue, dry mouth, and urination at night. Less common symptoms are blurred vision, unexplained weight loss, persistent infections, recurrent fungal infections and itching. The most common types of diabetes can be explained as type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes (gestational diabetes).
Type 1 diabetes accounts for up to 10 percent of all diabetics. It usually starts very suddenly and noisy under the age of 30. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90 percent of people with diabetes. The majority of patients are overweight. It usually occurs over the age of 40 and can be diagnosed with complications. It is insidious and slow. It has a strong genetic predisposition and may appear earlier in the next generation as the genetic density increases in the family.
Ilgın reported that gestational diabetes is also seen in 2-8 percent of pregnancies.
