The Historical Royal Road Should Be Included In Ermenek Tourism
The historical Royal Road, which starts from the Upper Ages - Sbide Ancient City and reaches Izvit Plateau from the Keben Rock cliffs, was used from 476 to 2008. The tree barriers that protect them from the dangers that can be experienced in the arrivals and departures of the road have also disappeared.
Within the historical King's Road, the road construction project of the Romans, Roman engineers built a magnificent road between Sbide and the plateau, regardless of geographical difficulties and labor costs.
This road is not only for the use of the plateau lands of the people of Sbide, it is a road that provides the shortest way to reach Karaman for all the settlements in the Ermenek Valley, as it connects the city on the Dedeli Plateau but is not yet known.
Roman road construction technique is animated as shown in the picture. The construction of this ancient King's Road in Yukari Çağlar Village was carried out with the technique described in the picture.
The Upper Ages King Road is thought to have been built with the arrival of Zenon, known to have resided in Sbide for 21 months, right after the end of the first empire period (9 February 474-9 January 475).
It is very likely that Zenon made expenses for the plateau roads of today's Büyük Karapınar Village in Zenonopolis, where he was born and raised, and that he also built this road when he resided in Sbide at that time.
Zenon resided in the palace in the place called the Sultan's Throne. With the treasure he brought to the region, it is believed that he first started digging the closed stone tunnel passing through the high cliffs to quench the thirst of the city of Sbide. Subsequently, the King's Road project, which I mentioned, was implemented in approx. 476 and provided its transportation from Sbide to Karaman. Zeneon; He is of Isaurian origin and his original name was Tarasicodissa or Trascalissaeus.
During his 21-month stay in Sbide, he gathered soldiers from the region, formed an army, and with his return to Istanbul, his second kingdom started again in August 476. This kingdom continued until his death on April 9, 491. He is one of the best known emperors among Byzantine emperors.
The Upper Ages King's Road started from Sbide, but the soil ground to the steep cliffs and the road that starts in front of the rock is a very interesting and solid structure suitable for the original project. This road continued from the front of the rock until the rock of 300 meters was reached. High walls were built in places where there was a cliff and a road was built over it. Tree barriers have been used as railing on some parts of this road since the first period of its construction.
The location of the road is Yukarı Çağlar Keben road. While one end of this road goes to the city in Dedeli Plateau, the other end reaches Balkusan via Sorkun. It then reaches Karaman.
