Retired engineer has not been able to leave the village where he came for research for 15 years The geological engineer who came to Karaman 18 years ago for a field study has been living a solitary life for 15 years by building a stone house near the Eye Cave, which he admires.
Cave researcher and geology engineer Emrullah Özel, originally from Sivas and who came to Karaman in 2002 for land survey while working at the General Directorate of Mining Technical Exploration, visited the Göz Cave in Bucakışla village with the recommendation of a headman.
The 71-year-old Özel, who was fascinated by the cave and its surroundings, wanted to buy land in the region at that time, but could not fulfill this desire because his financial means did not allow it.
After retiring a year later, Özel, who built a stone house on the land he bought with his bonus, has been living in these lands away from the stress of the city and with nature since 2005.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), Özel told Anadolu Agency (AA) that he was a nature lover and that he had a village life experience despite living in Ankara and Sivas before.
Expressing that he lived a life without road and electricity while he was building his house in Göz locality near Bucakışla, Özel said, "Before, there was no electricity and road. I used to meet my electricity needs with generator and solar energy. Then the green line electricity came. Life became easier. I started living here. 15 years have passed, I am here in summer and winter. " he spoke.
A peaceful life intertwined with nature and animals
Stating that he has many reasons to live here, Özel said, "The altitude of this place is 300 meters. The snow does not fall here, even if it falls, it melts immediately. Next to me is a beautiful Göksu River. I have a drinkable spring water in my land. There is no reason not to live here." Everything is natural. I mow. I have 3-5 of each fruit tree in my garden. I eat fruit that I produce myself. I even have orange, lemon and olive trees. We naturally extract our own olive oil. Here I remove all my vegetables, peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, spinach. . I make dried canned food for winter use. I make my own bread. I have duck, chicken, goose, two cats and dogs. It is a reason to see these animals live in harmony with each other. I am very peaceful. " used expressions.
"There is very little such a beautiful cave"
Underlining that she aims to not only live here, but also to recognize the Eye Cave and the environment, and to bring it to tourism, Özel continued as follows:
"Nature tourism features that are not too much in Turkey, where available. Lodging, camping making and rafting facilities, mountaineering, climbing, no other place to walk and can do a combination of all of the organic agriculture, I think. Eye Cave physically very important It is a cave. I've done cave researches in many parts of our country. There is very little such a beautiful cave. In recent days, memorabilia have been found in the cave.
When he first came here, he said that the villagers could not accept him, he called himself "a madman or a treasurer", but over time he got used to their situation.
